The compound opened before them and Jafar lumbered within. The stables were immense enough to house the elephants. As they were settled in Lord Adaxios helped his guest down, he considered her offer.
"I am afraid I had already intended to forgo the Festival out of protest for the occasion. My family was established here long before that fat saltmonger and his friends ever even saw Sothoryos, and certainly before they turned our home into a paradise for flesh peddlers and bigots. So if this invitation is coming from your brother, who makes his fortune on bloodsport and the broken backs of stone workers, then no... I will most respectfully decline his most generous offer."
He leaned forward and lowered his voice to a more smoldering tone. "But if you are inviting me... and you should like to ride through the Valyrian quarter on the back of Jafar beside me to your own party... then I will happily accept."

“Bigoted he may be, but that is my brother,” she said, her tone taking a sharp edge, the way it does when one defends ones family, despite their potential flaws “I appreciate your reservations, but I’d also appreciate you not insulting him to my face.”
The moment went as fast as it came and Aelyx smiled brightly at him, despite the dark turn in subject matter, “whether it’s a party for myself or him, our manse uses slaves, and they will be present, if that makes you uncomfortable.” She gave a sort of half shrug as if to say ‘what can you do’. “Jafar is magnificent, but I am not a person for spectacle, though I appreciate the necessity of it for some.” She looked up fondly at the animal already. “Would you like me to accompany you to our manse?” She smirked at him, turning the question round Nd leaning in closer too.

"I apologize for my words. I shall be far more amiable at this party... since I know you shall be there as well..."

“You don’t need to come,” she said, with a shrug, “I had wondered about discussing a sort of business venture with you, if you are amebiable to that also.”

"You're right, I don't need to do anything. But I want to hear you say you want me on your arm at this event. And then we can discuss new business."

Aelyxlooked at him for a moment, clearly weighing something, but decided whatever it was pretty quickly. “If you want to hear it, you’ll find I can be very flexible,” she stepped closer to him, “I would very much like you to come to my welcoming party with me.”

Adaxios gave a dignified kiss to her hand, faced away, threw all dignity by promptly tossing his fists in the air and giving a ululating cry of triumph. The other Summer Islanders laughed and cheered.
"Apologies. I have been in a black mood for some time."
A tiny smiling girl approaches Aelyx and holds up an exquisite purple and white flower. "She is greeting you to the compound and perhaps family," translates Artumar.

Aelyx smiles warmly as he kissed her hand but turned and looked round at Caleb as Artumar yelled, surprised, but laughed a little after the moments shock had passed.
“It’s beautiful,” She looked down at the little girl and smiled “how do I say thank you in your language?” She asked, as knelt down on the floor to be closer to the girls eye level.

Artumar says the word slowly for Aelyx.
Caleb is busy securing the Captain's horse in a stable in hopes of feeling slightly less redundant in this situation. No one volunteers to assist, but this may just be their way. There are no slaves here, after all.

Aelyx repeated it back to the little girl and accepted the flower with a smile. After maintaining eye contact with her for a few seconds, Aelyx rose again and looked down at the flower. “I’ve never seen it’s like, it must only grow here on the island.”
She waited for Caleb to join them again, “Sorry, I was so eager to get on your elephant I was remiss in introducing my friend here.” She turned to Caleb, “this is Caleb, a very old friend of mine that hails from Oldtower in Westros”

Artumar began speaking in the Western tongue, "I have been to Oldtown. A very educated people. I would like to have seen inside the Citadel, but there are apparently no black maesters."
"I wouldn't feel bad, my lord. I tried to peek inside the Starry Sept myself, but apparently there are no devout sailors."
They had a good laugh about that one.

Aelyx didn’t speak westerosi, and so patiently waited until they started to speak Valyrian again.

"Now, my lady..." Adaxios switched back to Valyrian. "You mentioned a proposal earlier." He lead the pair through the compound. In one room, an older woman began laying out some fruit and thin cuts of perfectly cooked beef for the guests.
Artumar took a seat and thanked the older woman with the word he had taught Aelyx earlier.

“I did, didn’t I?” Aelyx said max if she had forgot for a moment. At least Adaxios hadn’t given her some ridiculous word to say. She repeated it to the woman and smiled at her and took a seat, leaning back into it. “I was wondering what you did with all the land you clear of trees. There must be large swathes of the jungle just... cut out,”

Artumar ate a slice of beef and poured everyone a cup of cold water as Aelyx asked her question.
"We use it for grazing our own livestock and farming our own food. House Adaxios prefers to avoid doing business with the other farmers and the township itself. Self-sufficiency is our greatest strength."
Caleb had clearly never tasted meat this perfectly cooked and seasoned based on his joyous reaction.
